Caldes de Montbui es una villa situada en el Vallès Oriental, a treinta kilómetros de Barcelona, que tiene el privilegio de ser la primera villa termal de Cataluña y poseer las Termas Romanas mejor conservadas de la Península.
Su situación al pie de la montaña El Farell (805m), en una zona de pliegues y fracturas, facilita el afloramiento de las aguas termales que emanan a una temperatura de 76ºC, una de las más elevadas de Europa. Gracias a este recurso natural, el municipio goza de una condición privilegiada que ha influido mucho en su desarrollo urbanístico, y su legado histórico, tradicional y cultural.
Si nos adentramos por las calles del casco antiguo, podemos descubrir con un paseo el itinerario turístico y termal que incluye las antiguas Termas Romanas (siglo II aC), la simbólica Font del Lleó (74ºC), los lavaderos termales, los balnearios, la iglesia parroquial de Santa María, el puente románico (siglo XII) y otros monumentos del románico, barroco y modernismo.
Durante el itinerario también encontramos el Museo Thermalia, un gran centro temático alrededor de la cultura del agua termal que también acoge la exposición permanente de los artistas internacionales Manolo Hugué y Pablo Picasso. Y el Museo Delger, casa novecentista que nos muestra los aspectos más cotidianos de la vida de una familia acomodada del siglo XVIII.
Caldes de Montbui is a town located in the Vallès Oriental, thirty kilometers from Barcelona, which has the privilege of being the first thermal village in Catalonia and having the best preserved Roman Baths of the Peninsula.
Its location at the foot of the mountain El Farell (805m), in an area of folds and fractures, facilitates the outcropping of the thermal waters that emanate at a temperature of 76ºC, one of the highest in Europe. Thanks to this natural resource, the municipality enjoys a privileged condition that has greatly influenced its urban development, and its historical, traditional and cultural legacy.
If we enter the streets of the old town, we can discover with a walk the tourist and thermal itinerary that includes the ancient Roman Baths (second century BC), the symbolic Font del Lleó (74ºC), the thermal laundries, the spas, the parish church of Santa María, the Romanesque bridge (XII century) and other Romanesque monuments, Baroque and modernism.
During the itinerary we also find the Thermalia Museum, a large thematic center around the culture of thermal water that also hosts the permanent exhibition of international artists Manolo Hugué and Pablo Picasso. And the Delger Museum, a Noucentista house that shows us the most everyday aspects of the life of a wealthy family of the eighteenth century.
